Wire & Misc. Supplies

To do this system, I required about four feet of 4 gauge wire, and about six feet of 12 gauge wire, plus a few terminal connectors. I also picked up a couple of 1 ohm 10 watt (I think, maybe 100 watt) resistors at Radio Shack, another lighted toggle switch, and a small plastic/aluminum project box, which was about 4" x 2" x 1".

To do it properly, I am going to get an aluminum heat sink I can fasten the resistors to, since they generate a large amount of heat while welding. The purpose of the resistors, BTW, is to lower the voltage going into the field, which puts less load on the alternator while you're striking an arc.

I also bought a couple of small plastic pipe fittings at OSH to use as an insulated case/cap for my positive welding terminal under the hood.
